Friday, December 9th, 2011

The Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic is an annual 2.2 kilometer open ocean swim from Wategos Beach on Cape Byron to Main Beach. From the start area, the course bends slightly to head around the well-known surf spot called The Pass. It then proceeds in a straight line across the Bay to Main Beach. Cash prizes are available to the first, second and third place getters for both men and women.

Byron Bay is a popular vacation area. Cape Byron is an iconic surfing destination and the most easterly land point on the Australian continent readily identified by its historic lighthouse. The swim is located in one of the most picturesque and pristine beach locations on the Australian east coast. It is not uncommon for swimmers to share the water with humpback whales migrating along the coast. Surfers, scuba divers, beach goers and fishing enthusiasts enjoy Byron Bay waters all through the year.

The race is scheduled for the beginning of May every year. In 2011, the race date is 1 May. More than 1,700 participants are expected to participate this year, including many international swimmers. Entrance forms are provided at the official race website. Organizers open the registration areas from 7am on race day.

Being an open ocean event, the course can be affected by heavy swell. The course is well-marked by buoys. Lifeguards and race organizers patrol the course on paddle boards and boats in case of emergencies. The ambulance service is on stand-by at the beach.

The event started in 1988 as a small, modest charity affair. It has grown each year attracting a growing number of participants. Many top class competitive swimmers like Josh Santacaterina, Jon Konradsand and Susie O’Neill have swum in the event.

Spend Your Holidays at a Luxurious Napa Valley Inn and Spa

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

North of San Francisco in Vallejo, Highway 29 heads into the hills and scenic wonderland that is Napa Valley. Among the world’s premier tourist destinations, the area is known for its five-star hotels and resorts, world-class restaurants and, of course, its multitudinous wineries. With its lush, rolling hills, stunning vistas and largely temperate climate, Napa Valley is a small slice of heaven on earth. While the warmer months tend to be the region’s busiest time, Napa resorts are open for the holidays as well. The weather is chillier but only by California standards, and there are plenty of Christmas-themed events along with Napa’s standard attractions.

Typically a stressful time of year, a holiday vacation spent in a Napa Valley lodge , hotel or B&B is a great way to relax and let others take care of the planning, setup and execution of Christmastime activities. Not only that, but given that it’s the offseason, the costs are lower than you might think. Best of all, the region is yours to explore without the crowds.

Napa is known for its wine. In the early winter, harvest may be over, but the vintners have plenty of cabernets, pinots and sauvignon blancs for you to sample. Take a self-guided tour of the region or, if you prefer, take advantage of a private limousine service to shuttle you from estate to estate. The wine, however, is far from all Napa has to offer. Enjoy the therapeutic natural hot springs of Calistoga towards the north of the valley. Resorts offer top-notch spa treatments and therapeutic massages designed to help you relax and rejuvenate in both mind and body amid majestic surroundings.

Being that it’s the holiday season, the vacation would not be complete without a helping of holiday joy and wonder. In Yountville, for instance, take in the annual Winterscape Celebration, a month-long festival offering carriage rides, holiday performances, arts, crafts and – naturally – some of the world’s best wine and food. The French Laundry located on Washington St. in Yountville is considered one of the ten best restaurants in the world. While reservations are hard to come by in the busy season, you stand a better chance of getting a table in the winter, even without too much advance notice. Elsewhere in the valley you’ll find Christmas bazaars; an underground amphitheater where carolers and a hand bell choir perform; and lights, lights and more lights. There’s even a holiday train -the Santa Express – that runs from Napa to Yountville, perfect for families.

By California standards, winter in Napa is cold – averaging in the upper 40s. Days usually hover above 50 and can even reach 60, so if you’re coming from the frigid Midwest or East Coast, it’ll feel like paradise. Spending Christmas in one of the numerous Napa luxury hotels or resorts combines stunning accommodations, stellar concierge service and world-class meals with the beauty of the region. Perfect for couples, reunions, singles and families who want to escape for the holidays, Napa Valley spa resorts offer an enchanting, all-around experience that, on top of everything else, is truly out of the ordinary.

If you’re looking for a premier Napa Valley spa resort with a 5-star Michelin Guide rating for your destination wedding, you need look no further than the Villagio Inn & Spa in Yountville. This Michelin Guide 5-star rated hotel is a Mediterranean styled resort that is a destination in itself. In addition to all the services any discerning traveler might require, they have a full menu of sumptuous spa treatments, at very reasonable prices.

Understand The Greatest Effective Methods For Travel

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Traveling can be one of the greatest adventures in life. There are so many places to go and things to see. This article can help you to broaden your horizons and to become a traveler. Traveling is an important part of life because you meet new people and experience new things.

While you are traveling be sure to leave your valuable belongings and credit cards at home. Use traveler’s checks, and simply don’t wear jewelry. It doesn’t matter if your jewelry is costume jewelry – thieves won’t know the difference – there is no reason to tempt potential thieves to accost you.

Before going on a trip overseas, make sure to make an appointment with your regular doctor. Ask if you need any vaccinations before going, and find out if there are any other precautions that you need to take. If you are traveling with medicine, check the laws concerning carrying prescribed drugs.

If you are a woman traveling alone, don’t announce this! Even if you are single, you may want to wear a wedding ring, and if you rent a car, place a man’s hat and coat somewhere in the car. If you think someone is following you, go into the nearest public place and call for help. Be alert and move in a confident manner at all times.

Before heading out for your trip, take pictures of your luggage and the contents. You should save the pictures on your computer and email them to yourself. Create a list of the items that you have packed. If your luggage gets lost or stolen, you will have the information that you may need when filing a report.

Take special care when you are preparing to travel overseas. Crime is a fact of life anywhere you go. Be aware of the difficulty you will suffer if you lose or have stolen your identification, money, or tickets. Make sure you plan the safekeeping of these things before you even start out the door.

Before you leave, compile a playlist of all your favorite songs on a portable music-player such as a ipod. Listening to your favorite songs while you are traveling will make your journey less boring. Make sure you take some noise cancelling headphones with you if you are traveling on noisy public transport.

To keep yourself safe during your hotel stay, request a room on the first or second floor. In the case of a fire, you’ll safely be able to exit your room from the preordained fire exits or the window. While hotel fires are fairly uncommon, this will make sure you’re protected if the worst does occur.

As the beginning of this article discussed, traveling is an enjoyable hobby that many people enjoy. To maximize your travel time and make the most of your experience, good knowledge and information about your destination are crucial. Use this article’s advice and be on your way to making exciting travel plans.

1st Koh Samui offering cheap Koh Samui hotels. It’s adviseable to put earlier mentioned ideas at heart when travel to Koh Samui also.

Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic An Anticipated Fun Race

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

As much a community and social event as it is athletic challenge, finishing a Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic is a burning goal for many swimming enthusiasts. The contest is on the first Sunday every May to celebrate the start of the whale-watching season that stretches May to November each year. The event attracts swimmers from around Australia and overseas.

Byron Bay is a small but vibrant town with some 6,000 residents on the far north coast of New South Wales (NSW). It gained prominence during the 1960s when many hippies dropped out of the mainstream to establish an alternative lifestyle in the region. The place has developed an easygoing approach to life that is unique, even by Australian laidback standards.

The race begins at Wategos Beach and finishes at Main Beach opposite the celebrated Byron Bay Surf Club. The course is indicated by large buoys. It channels swimmers around the famed surf spot known as The Pass, and then makes a bee-line for the finish line.

The first race held in 1988 had about 100 contestants. Over 1,700 are expected at the 2011 event. Because of the large number participants, the start is staggered. Elite contestants start last.

The race record of 19 minutes is held by Grant Hackett when he was 15 years old. His time shows just how much swell and current can influence an event. For example, the 2010 male winner finished in 19 minutes 38 seconds.

Participants are requested to register online in advance of the event. Entrance forms are available at the race website. There is a formal deadline for official registrations. People who miss that cut-off date may join the swim but their time will not be recorded. Race organizers are at Wategos from at least 7am on race day to check-in pre-registered swimmers. The race kicks-off at 10am.

In conclusion, swimmers participating in the Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic should be aware that they need to make their own arrangements for any belongings they leave onshore at Wategos. Most participants leave them with family or friends. Some donate their clothes to charity by depositing them into bins provided specially for the day. Others leave their belongings in their car at Main Beach and then stroll the short distance to Wategos before taking the plunge.

Tell Me All About The Byron Bay Blues Festival

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Music, laughter, feelings of overwhelming joy, a sense of community togetherness; these descriptive phrases do not begin to demonstrate the vibe of a music festival. This guide to the Byron Bay Blues festival will provide an overview including the festivities’ location, accommodation, facilities and the music line up of the merrymaking six day event, which is held in Australia’s eastern most town in New South Wales.

Originally held indoors at the Byron Bay Arts Factory, the music gala boasts a rich and varied history of locations since its inception in 1990, and now twenty one years later is celebrating it’s silver key anniversary at the one hundred and twenty hectare Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, which is an actual working Tea Tree plantation eleven kilometers north of Byron Bay.

The popular tourist town has different types of accommodation to suit different needs, requirements and desires which include swanky hotels, cozy motels, neat self-contained apartments and beach side caravan parks. The gig organizers will be running a shuttle bus in between Tyagarah and the city center in order to promote safe drinking practices. Tickets for 17500 people per day have been ordered and secure free parking will be available near the grounds.

If smelling the flowers and walking home from a night out at a music event is more your style and you don’t mind being outdoors, there is camping available for six and a half thousand folks next to the music arena. There will be no alcohol rules in place and will be enforced by removing any offenders. Guests are asked to keep noise to a minimum and to leave glass at home for the comfort of other campers. The Tepee Village is available for a different style of camping if you choose to bring little cargo on your voyage to the grounds.

Never fear though, if you can’t last for the week without an alcoholic beverage, there are licensed areas within the festival grounds to have a tipple. There is also (parents get ready to cheer) a child minding section, two food halls, market stalls, CD shop and an area for artists to sign your paraphernalia as well as an automatic teller machine in case you spend all your money on music.

The international and national music function boasts a commanding line up of starring acts including Australia’s very own Clare Bowditch, Wolfmother and the massively famous Blues musician; Bob Dylan. An ever popular and expanding guest list could be the reason that the festival won the Australian Event of the year in 2010.

The tickets range from single day passes for adults or children, or a passes that will cover the entire event. There are also packages for families or couples and VIP tickets. Volunteers are welcome to apply to help out with the festival, however this is an extremely popular organization for those known as ‘Vollies’ and not all applications are accepted.

The festival is set to be another popular and successful event. Tickets sell out not long after they are offered for sale, so if you don’t have them yet they may already be sold out for the days you want to attend. Go along and enjoy the smiling, singing and jolly good feeling which is usually associated with this musical bonanza.

This byron bay holiday accommodation is pretty interesting. You should take a peak at accommodation Byron Bay and see exactly what you think of it. We believe you will like it.
